My name is Pam Williams, and I have had the pleasure of breeding pedigree
cats for over twelve years. My first love are Devon Rex, the curly
gremlins of the cat world, whose personality and capacity for mischief is
surpassed only by the spectacular Sphynx, my second love. Living with both
of these breeds ensures that there is never a dull moment in our home. I
often say that I no longer need a television now that I have Sphynx and Devon
Rex, because they sure are a constant source of entertainment.
I came to the Sphynx world quite by accident. I had
been happily breeding Devon Rex for several years when I met, quite unexpectedly,
my first Sphynx, and was immediately captivated. I had never even
considered breeding another breed, so I decided to take things slowly and it
wasn't until 2006 that my first Sphynx babies were born. My cattery prefix
"Streakers" is now registered with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy
(GCCF), Felis Britannica (FB), and The International Cat Association (TICA). I
do like to show my cats, as this gives me an opportunity to network with other
Sphynx breeders and keep up to date with various breed related developments.
From a social aspect, I
have met some wonderful people whilst out showing, some of whom have become very
good friends.
Although I sit on various cat club committees, I had no idea just what I
was taking on, when in 2005 I was asked to form a new cat club, with the
aim of finally obtaining GCCF recognition for the Sphynx breed. Our new
club was formed in May 2005, and became known as the Sphynx Cat Association,
which after a lot of hard work, is now a thriving GCCF affiliated club with well
over one hundred members. During that time, it has been my pleasure to
serve the club and it's members as Honorary Secretary, and I look forward to
many more happy years as part of the club's community. In June 2006 we
finally won our long battle for GCCF recognition, and Sphynx can now be shown in
Assessment classes at GCCF shows.
My family now comprises myself, four children, two dobermans,
one Devon Rex, five Sphynx and one very patient husband. In 2007 we all moved to our new
home, in the midst of the beautiful Staffordshire countryside, where we were
very quickly joined by several hens. I'm pleased to say that
future plans do not include breeding and showing chickens...........yet!!
